Time to unite and get our skate spot in Powder Springs. As you will all agree we have had our trials. Police stopping us and making us move on. No skate parks within walking/skating distance for us to use. Did you know there is an ordinance that does in fact prohibit skate boarding on sidewalks and streets in Powder Springs? And although we have all be told by the authorities that we are not allowed to skate at the County Parks or Silver Comet trail….this is incorrect and we have confirmation from the Cobb County Parks Director Eddie Canon that we can skate at the parks as long as we do no damage. And you know we are not into Damage……that’s the counter culture that has given us Skaters a bad rap……! They also confirmed that we can Skate Silver Comet!!! Powder Springs is in the process of updating their officers to those facts. Now we know that not all the cops are bad although sometimes it feels that way. So again…..LETS ORGANIZE!!!!!
We have a parent advocate that is ready to really drive our issues home. We need your support and your parents. We will be attending every single town meeting and we have the support of Councilman Al Thurman.
BACKGROUND: Some years ago Powder Springs listed a skate park to be built across the street from the Publix down in that hole next to Silver Comet Trail. It is paid for with SPLOSH funds……SLOSH is some kind of special sales tax. Well these funds have been low….so it has been slow. Now some of the Council members think that there are no more skateboarders in Powder Springs. They want to replace it with a botanical garden…………………………….dude……My mom’s got flowers……..Give us our Park!!!!
STRATEGY: SIGN THE PETITION. ATTEND THE MEETINGS. AL THURMAN is going to get us on the ADGENDA. WE NEED TO STAY ON THIS . TOTAL COMMITMENT!!!!!!
Now sign, sign, sign. Forward this to every boarder in Powder Springs and remind them to get their parents involved.
And if you don’t have my FACEBOOK – search John Goodwill to friend me!!! I will have updates on meeting times and dates as well as information about skate locations. None of this will happen without your support.
