Saving just one dog won't change the world, but surely, it will change the world for that one dog...
We, as a nation, need to raise awareness on animal cruelty. Granted there are millions of people who support and are aware of animal protection, some are not. Many people are either uneducated on the issue or choose to disregard the millions of accounts on animal cruelty that happen each day. By signing this petition you are not only supporting the cause, but raising awareness. Animals are put in horrifying conditions that some cannot even imagine; puppy mills, animal fighting, neglected horses, animals used in laboratories for product testing, etc. Animals of every species deserve to be treated right! They feel just like humans do and do not ever deserve the abuse that many go through. The number of animal cruelty cases that are reported in the media are only a portion of the cases that exist. Most acuse and cruelty cases are never reported.
Some statistics involving animal cruelty cases include:
- About 2,168,000 women/men are physically assaulted by a partner in the U.S. every year and 71% of domestic victims report that they're abuser also targeted their pets.
-Types of abuse include: beating, hanging, hoarding, fighting, mutilating, burning, abandoning, choking, dragging, and poisoning animals.
-Each year, 10,000 bulldogs die iin bullfighting
-3-4 million cats and dogs are euthanized every year in shelters because of over crowding
- In the U.S. 1.13 million animals are used in testing & research every year.
- Scientists estimated that 100 species of animals go extinct every day.
What I would like to see from this petition is to raise awareness about animal cruelty and what I would like to see is stricter and increased penalties for crimes committed against helpless aimals. As of now, cases where people are caught committing crimes against animals are taken so lightly, that they don't care enough to stop. So whether or not saving animals is what you are passionate about, you can still make a difference by signing this petition and helping to further advance legislation that will decrease animal cruelty cases committed each day.
