ASPCA Invites You to "Legal Voices for Animals Day" In Sacramento

The ASPCA is proud to invite you to attend our free inaugural Legal Voices for Animals Day (LVAD) at the Capitol on March in Sacramento, CA. The event is designed to give animal welfare advocates the opportunity to hear from some of the most respected minds in animal welfare and engage in policy discussions about important animal issues. The free event is divided into two parts – a morning session where you will take part in discussions with several distinguished speakers, and an afternoon session where you will be able to meet with your legislator and be a voice for animals.  The event runs from 9am to 4pm on Tuesday, March 11.

As an attendee you will have the opportunity to hear from prominent animal law litigator, professor and partner at Schiff Hardin, Bruce Wagman. Bruce has been involved in many high profile animal welfare cases including the defense of California law requiring humane treatment of animals too sick or injured to stand or walk and preventing horse slaughter. You can read more about Mr. Wagman here

You will also have the opportunity to hear from Dr. Gary Weitzman, executive director of the San Diego Humane Society and SPCA. Dr. Weitzman is an experienced animal advocate who helped lead the Washington Animal Rescue League in DC to becoming a national resource for disaster and puppy mill rescues. Dr. Weitzman is a Certified Animal Welfare Administrator, co-host of the nationally syndicated radio show, “The Animal House” and was involved in passage of San Diego’s new humane sourcing ordinance for pet stores. You can read more about Dr. Weitzman here.

We will also hear from elected officials and other animal welfare experts.

In the afternoon, attendees will have the opportunity to meet with their elected officials. By registering for the event we will be able to set up meetings with your legislators. If you are worried about meeting with your elected official, do not worry, you will have two opportunities to tune into a webinar on either the evening of March 4th or 10th where the ASPCA will lead you through tips and advice of how to approach an elected member’s office. All you need is a computer and phone to connect to the webinar. Information about the webinars will be sent to you after you register.

The ASPCA hopes that you attend this event and show the Capitol that animals have a strong voice in California. For more information and to attend the event please visit our registration page.

Also you can join the LVAD community by visiting our Facebook page.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact kevin.oneill@aspca.org. 916.214

We hope you can join our coalition partner, ASPCA, at the Capitol on March 11, 2014.
