Let New Jersey Bakers Sell Their Own Cakes!

  • by: Toni Moore
  • recipient: Senator Joseph Vitale (D - NJ)

I am a cake decorator in NJ and am very good at what I do....I want to bake from my home and sell my product. There is a law called The Cottage Law in many other areas, like California, which allows the baker to make and sell their product from their home, as long as the customer knows where it is coming from.

Please sign my petition to pass a Cottage food law in New Jersey!

People ask, why cant we open our own shop? Well, some of us don't make enough because we are limited in space or can't afford to open our own shop to do what we love to do.

In May, the New Jersey assembly passed A-1244, a bill that would allow bakers to sell from their homes. This is a step in the right direction, but now it needs to be passed by the Senate. Please sign this petition urging Sen. Thompson to speed up this process.

Everyone should have the right to make and sell food from their home! I ask you to please sign this petition so we can have the legal right to do what we love and maybe someday open our own business. We are all only trying to make ends meet, so why not support us?

Sen. Thompson,

We the undersigned urge you to please pass bill A-1244 in the Senate to allow Cottage food laws in New Jersey so that small business owners can bake and sell food from their homes.

Folks who can't afford to open up their own shop will benefit from this law, as well as the local community. Please be small-business friendly and pass Cottage food laws!
