Beauty Without Beads: We don't need microbeads on our faces or in our waterways!

We are concerned consumers who demand microbead-free products. Recent studies have shown the environmental impact of these plastic pieces, mainly:

- the inability to filter microbeads from wastewater that is put back into our waterways

- the highly toxic potential of these plastics once they have absorbed the pollutants present in our waterways

- the various organisms that ingest these now toxic plastic pieces, including humans via consumption of fish (watch this is excellent video to learn more)

We know that these plastics are unnecessary but that they generate more profits for manufacturers because:

- plastics are cheaper than natural exfoliants like waxes or apricot shells

- plastics are also less abrasive, which means we can use more of the product, more often (and so we'll buy more of it)

As a result, we are demanding that you:

1. Immediately stop using microbeads in your products.

2. Adopt a universal logo in order for consumers to easily identify microbead-free products while shopping.

Some governments have already banned the sale of these products, with others slated to make similar decisions in the near future. It's only a matter of time. Your voluntary compliance to make these changes will prepare you for the legal changes to come.

Show us what your products are made of.

Signed,

The Beauty Without Beads project and supporters.
