...Selling or trading Africa’s dwindling wild heritage by our government to foreign nations by violently kidnapping wild creatures from their families and homes is not only cruel but also deprives the people of Zimbabwe of their right to their natural heritage, as well as depriving those who visit Zimbabwe to experience its wild places. Science repeatedly notes that mammalian young need their mothers and families to stay alive; this is particularly true of elephants whose calves have a very poor chance of surviving when removed from a cohesive and nurturing family unit; recent news reports allege that at least one of the kidnapped elephant calves has died.
We call upon the Government of Zimbabwe to reverse the decision to export Zimbabwe’s wild heritage to UAE/China and return these young animals to where they belong; to where they will always belong; with their families and in the wild.
