As a result of the 9.0 earthquake and tsunami that hit the Northeastern Coast of Japan and the subsequent radiation leaks at the Fukushima Nuclear Power Plants, whole communities have been ordered by the Japanese government to evacuate their homes, farms and livestock with no regulations or legal remedies in place to prevent the suffering and starvation of the animals left behind. Even the animals in the research facilities and family pets have been left to starve to death and die as shelters that can prevent these cruel acts are not being provided.   Considering the history of Japan being an upstanding, helpful and highly intelligent and humane people, these barbaric acts are unacceptable and must stop immediately in order to prevent suffering and cruelty to animals which should be punishable by law and legal sanctions.

We are positive that this petition will pave the way for the Japanese government in making sense out of this terrible and catastrophic tragedy not only for humanity but also for animal welfare and future agricultural farming.  This legislation will bring much improved agricultural standards and protection for these sacred animals that provide sustenance and are our greatest resource for thriving as a society.

Dear Mr Naoto Kan,

We the undersigned request that you consider bringing forward legislation that will make it illegal to starve animals, cattle and livestock through acts of neglect either by commission and/or ommission as these are cruel and unacceptable acts for the civilised, upstanding and dignified people of Japan to tolerate. 

We are aware Mr Kan that your family has a love of animals and indeed your son is a veterinarian with special skills to provide for guidance and support to ensure that such cruelty is preventable and more importantly, that the protection and nurturance of these animals is actively sought given the importance of agriculture, cattle, livestock within Japans economy and reputation as a civilised, noble and prosperous society.

We thank you for your generosity and consideration of our requests as we are certain that out of this terrible tragedy for Japan will evolve great courage and we are positive that this petition will pave the way for the Japanese government to make significant improvements for animal welfare and future agricultural farming. This legislation will bring much improved agricultural standards and protection for these sacred animals that provide sustenance and are our greatest resource for thriving as a society.
