Protect Wolves in Idaho from Aerial Killings

  • by: Sue Lee

More than 1900 wolves have been slaughtered in aerial killings in Idaho. This "sport" continues in the Lolo Elk Management Zone of the Clearwater National Forest where hunters in small aircraft and helicopters chase and gun down wolves. Such a practice is appalling and must be stopped.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Wildlife Services and the state of Idaho are permitting this cruelty to continue while the U.S. Forest Service silently watches it being carried out on protected lands.

These federal and state government agencies are overlooking the well-being of our wolves and ignoring the consequences of these aerial killings. They appear to be taking the side of hunters and issuing hunting licenses despite the warnings of wildlife experts who say that these killings will harm the state's ecological balance.

Please join me in encouraging the Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack to stop the slaughter of Idaho's wolves and protect the animals. Please sign and share this petition to end the war on wolves.

Dear Secretary Vilsack,

I'm disturbed to learn about another series of aerial killings of wolves by the USDA and the Wildlife Services in the Lolo Elk Management Zone by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game (IDFG). I strongly urge you to ban this practice that uses my taxpayer resources to decrease the wolf population.

Facts show that wolf populations have fallen drastically and we need to put plans in place for the recovery of wolves. Please protect these animals from such reckless and unscientific assaults on the ecosystem's apex predator.

I urge you to stop engaging in these practices now and in the future for the safety and well-being of the Idaho wolves.

Sincerely,
[Your name]
