Florida: Don't Open New Primate Research Lab!

Hendry County in Southwest Florida already has two primate research labs that hold a combined three thousand macaque monkeys, and now a Chicago-based firm called Prelabs is planning to build a third.

As shown in this video, monkeys are handled roughly in Africa during the capturing process with no regard to their physical or emotional well being. They are then shipped to Florida for use in painful tests. Researchers give monkeys lethal doses of toxic chemicals to see how much they can take before they convulse and die a brutal death.

Two research facilities in Florida are more than enough. Hendry County Commissioners have not yet approved the lab, and are open to hearing all viewpoints. Please urge County Commissioners to say "no" to the new primate lab.

Dear Hendry County Commissioners,

We are writing to voice our disapproval of the new primate lab that Chicago-based firm Prelabs is planning to build in Hendry County. As you know, Hendry County already has two primate research labs that hold a combined three thousand macaque monkeys.

We believe that two research facilities in Florida are more than enough. These intelligent animals deserve to be treated humanely. We respectfully urge you to say "no" to the new primate lab. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
