Protect New Brunswick Wilderness: Stop the Sisson Mine Project

Walk along the proposed Sisson Mine development and you'll find pristine forests growing along the beautiful Nashwaak River. This is the traditional territory of the Wulustukyik First Nation and home to countless birds, turtles, frogs and mammals.

However, this area is under threat from the mine proposal. The Sisson Mine would take molybdenum and tungsten out of the ground and pump dangerous tailing waters back into the local environment. Though the corporation insists its methods are sound, the threat of another Mount Polley disaster is real.

The project was approved by six First Nations chiefs, for a hefty financial settlement. However, many First Nations residents do not agree with the decision and are currently camped on the proposed site to stop construction and protect their traditional lands from irrevocable environmental damage.

Despite the approval, the project is certainly not a sure thing. By working together and raising the voices of First Nations grandmothers protesting on the ground we can ensure that this project gets stopped for good and this precious wilderness protected from mining development.
