Petition to repeal Window Tint Test Law

  • by: Brianna Dodge
  • recipient: Governor Cuomo, The White House, Donald Trump

Governor Cuomo recently passed a law effective 1/1/2017 stating that all vehicles must allow 70% of light to shine through the car window otherwise it will not pass the vehicle inspection.

New York State has bigger issues to deal with than tinted windows on a vehicle. Tinted windows have always been illegal but if the driver chooses to have tinted windows, let them suffer the consequences (I.e getting a ticket). Several mechanic businesses will suffer, as many of them offer window tinting to their customers. New Yorkers should have the freedom to choose how they want their car to look without the government or mechanic shops getting involved.

The purpose of a vehicle inspection is to ensure safety of the vehicle. Adding the window tint test to the NYS vehicle inspection does not guanetee a "safer" environment. Removing the tinted windows or making it a lesser percentage is also not going to guarantee an officers' safety and it's certainly not going to prevent a pedestrian accident. Each driver is responsible for their actions, not the mechanic conducting the vehicle inspection. Therefore, the legislation is lawfully unjust.
