Demand a More Humane Environment for Wangaratta Livestock

I have been living in Wangaratta for 20 years and in that time the council has made promisses that they aren't keeping. It's not that they dont have the money to do it, they just find ridiculous things to spend it on (the most recent being a series of 'artistic' lights). The reason that I am against the speding of money on these material items is because there are animal welfare concerns that need attention. 2 in particular:

The Wangaratta stock market is out in the open with no shelter on hard concrete floors. For years the council have been saying that they will do something about it but never have. All year round, through storms, freezing frosts, temperatures soaring as high as 42 degress (fahrenheit: 107.6) and below -7 (fahrenheit: 19.4), cattle, sheep, newborn lambs and calves aswell as other livestock are brought into the yards to be sold. Some come in overnight and have to spend the night on cold, wet concrete. The animals are standing out in the scorching heat in summer with no way of finding shelter and some animals aren't taken from the stockyards until late in the afternoon. To me this just isn't good enough.

The 2nd major issue is the feedlot out at Peechelba. Peechelba Beef keep dozens of cattle in barren pens with no shelter what so ever. Some are let out to graze but a majority of them are kept in the tiny pens until they leave after a few months. I encourage people to look at the gallery on http://peechelbabeef.com.au/peechelba-beef/feedlot_facilities.html and although they are well fed the emotional state of these animals are questionable.

Please sign this petition to push the council to provide shelter for these animals and greatly improve the conditions they are kept in.
