Duke Energy, Clean Up Your Oil Spill in Ohio!

An oil spill from a Duke Energy power plant in New Richmond closed off a 15 mile stretch of the Ohio River on Tuesday, August 19. While traffic detours temporarily inconvenienced motorists, the spill's long-term effects are a greater concern. 5,000 gallons of oil spread over the Ohio River for 12 miles from the power plant toward Cincinnati, and residents could smell the oil's odor in the air throughout the day.

This spill comes right on the tails of Toledo's water crisis weeks earlier, when 400,000 people were affected by toxins from Lake Erie's algae that found their way into the city's water supply.

Responsibility for cleaning up the oil spill and monitoring water safety has so far been placed upon the shoulders of government agencies, including the Ohio EPA and Coast Guard. Please sign the petition to urge Duke Energy to take responsibility for the damage they've done and step forward to help clean up their oil spill!
