Mitt Romney, Don't Cut PBS!

Mitt Romney, the 2012 Republican presidential candidate, wants to cut PBS. Basically, Elmo and Big Bird might be in trouble. He said that they "might have to have advertisers".

PBS reaches 123 million people through television and 21 million people online each month. It is called "America's largest classroom", as it's available to all children in the US -- including those that can't go to preschool. For preschool teachers, it is the number one resource and has been proven to improve critical literacy skills. It enables Americans to be exposed to music and the arts at a time when these programs are being cut from our schools, when they might not have had the opportunity otherwise. PBS supports local communities through programs all over the country. PBS not only educates and informs, it also inspires.

As someone who grew up watching PBS, I know just how valuable it is. Please tell Romney not to cut PBS!

Dear Mitt Romney,

In a recent interview, you said that if you are elected president, you will cut all funding from PBS and that they "might have to have advertisers".

PBS is an extremely valuable resource that allows millions of people to be exposed to the arts and music at a time when it is getting cut from our schools and many wouldn't have the opportunity otherwise. It allows children all over the country to learn -- including those that can't go to preschool -- and is the #1 resource for preschool teachers. It educates and informs, but it also inspires, giving back to communities all over America.

Please do not cut PBS!
