Change the age limit of tattoos to 16 with parental consent

This is an issue that isn’t heard or read about often because in some states, tattoos at the age of sixteen are allowed with parental consent. But here in the state of Illinois, they want you to be eighteen years old as well as having parental consent. In other states like Indiana they have a law where if you want a tattoo and are under the age of eighteen, you must be accompanied and have written consent from a parent or legal guardian. So, why is that different from Illinois? I have tried getting a tattoo at the age of sixteen with my mom and three sisters but was turned down because of my age, even though my mom said it was okay. We were getting a tattoo as a family and were aware that it was a permanent marking on our body. The meaning of the tattoo meant a lot so we knew we wanted to get it. You may have a negative outlook on tattoos thinking that they look trashy or that people will regret it as they get older. Many people do have different outlooks on tattoos that are positive and negative. However, many reasons people get a tattoo is because of the meaning it holds. Tattoos are really just a harmless form of self-expression. People do many things to their body like piercings to make themselves feel good, and this is just another way people do it.
