Tell the NCAA Now: Vote for a Hawaii Exemption!

The NCAA will be voting in just a days to exempt Football Subdivision (FBS/FCS) coaches from working at non institutional football camps. This means with the exception of the University of Hawaii, island athletes would be required to spend thousands of dollars to fly to the mainland to attend multiple camps. Right now, island athletes can attend camp in Hawaii in front of 80+ college coaches without the financial hardship of traveling to the mainland. We need signatures fast!

The SEC and ACC currently do not allow their own college coaches to work at non institutional (non-college run) camps. These two major conference players want the NCAA to vote to ban ALL other FBS/FCS conferences from attending and/or working at camps not belonging to his institution. That means no more non-UH football camps in Hawaii with mainland college coaches.  How will athletes who can play at a smaller school get exposure? How will the under the radar athletes get exposure?  $$$$$ ... if they have it. College coaches prefer to see players live and in person when ever possible.

If passed, this will be a discriminatory ruling against athletes from the islands of Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam and the state of Alaska. It is not economically feasible for athletes from the islands to attend multiple football camps in order to get exposure like their mainland counterparts who can drive to as many camps as they like or take less expensive flights to attend multiple camps. For island athletes to participate in college football camps, with the exception of University of Hawaii, it costs on average for one camp $1500 for airfare, hotel, ground transportation, cost of camp and food. Add on another camp while they are on the mainland, it will cost another $500-$800 for the camp, food, hotel transportation. Often parents must fly out with their child if it is not an overnight camp, adding on at least $800 for summer airfare, hotel and food. These costs make it impossible for the majority of the students to attend camps, only a few select families are able to afford this.

The Hawaiian Islands, American Samoa and Guam are unique. No other state, with the exception of Alaska has this problem. The NCAA will be penalizing the island and Alaska athletes simply for not living on the mainland USA if this vote passes.

Please sign the petition now so we may forward this on to the NCAA and let them know, the student athletes of Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam and Alaska need their consideration
