SIGN TO DEMAND JUSTICE FOR DEAD BEAR BY REQUIRING LAW ENFORCEMENT TO BE TRAINED IN HANDLING WILDLIFE

Ontario, Canada. York Regional Police shot dead a black bear cornered in a backyard minutes before the Ministry of Natural Resources arrived, who had been summoned to capture the animal.

The 90-kilogram bear was spotted around 6:20 a.m. in the backyard of a home when York officers tried to corner the bear up a tree using a megaphone and siren. But after some time, when the animal appeared to get on the move again, at least four shots were fired. It should be noted that at no time had the bear demonstrated it was a threat to anyone.
WHY DID THE POLICE FEEL THE NEED TO SHOOT ?

The Ministry of Natural Resources, even though they knew about the situation for three days, showed up three minutes AFTER the shooting.
WHY HAD THE MNR TAKEN SO LONG?

In the face of diminishing natural wildlife, we need more than statements of regret : this must never happen again!!

The police defend their actions, claiming they are not equipped to handle wildlife. And the MNR are defending their lack of response by claiming the conditions were not appropriate. Everyone is abdicating responsibility.

Law enforcement agencies need to be better trained when dealing with wildlife in urban settings.

This animal wasn't killed instantly and wasn't charging anyone. The bear hadn't shown any kind of aggression to anybody.
