With many of Maricopa's citizens already struggling to make ends meet, Global Water has plans to add to the already strained economy by raising their rates from an average of $75.60 to $120.71 per month. This act is nothing short of cruel to Global Water's captive consumers!
Everyone needs water. It is a fact that we are in a recession; it is also a fact that Global Water's customers have no choice in their water utility provider. To do this to struggling families, seniors on fixed incomes, and just plain citizens who could better use their dollar to stimulate the economy is plain corporate gouging of the consumer on the part of Global Water. It's not surprising, from a business that has already proven it's customer service to be almost non-existant, but it definitely must not be allowed!
Usually when you pay more, you get more. Not the case with Global Water, who's unfair practices over the last few years have already cost many consumer's hundreds of dollars in reconnect and other fees. Their poor business practices and lack of customer service have earned them a lowly D rating with the BBB. You don't reward a child for a D on a report card, and you certainly don't reward an unscrupulous company with a captive audience with permission to hike their rates 62%.
We, the concerned citizens of Maricopa, firmly demand that the Arizona Corporation Commision refuse Global Water's request to increase rates (see Docket #s: SW-20445A-09-0077, W-02451A-09-0078, W-01732A-09-0079, W-20446A-09-0080, W-02450A-09-0081, and W-01212A-09-0082).

I am being forced out of my home to due all these increases. I am a widow on a fixed income and can't work due to my health. This was supposed to be a good move for us before my husband passed away and it is turning into a nightmare for me. I would have been ok until all these hikes started happening, taxes, water electric and so on.

I feel that times like these that everyone needs to tighten their belts including Global Water. They where a sore spot before this but this is outragious. If they are allowed to do this there is something wrong with our government.

The rise in the water bill price is too high. with this economy is ridiculous to expect people to pay such high price.

My water service was disconnected when my bill was 9 days late being paid. I received no notice. They hit me with a $60 reconnection fee and a $25 return check fee NOT BECAUSE the check was bad but because we accidentally typed in the wrong routing number when paying online. STOP THE MONOPOLY!!!!!

To Whon it May Concern:
As a consumer and the President of Santarra H.O.A I find this rate increase not only to be unreasonable, I question whether it is legal since my community will be charged an increase of 44.9% for residential in addition to 78.6% for our communities irrigation.
Over the last year we have worked diligently to reduce our irrigation water consumption by 15% with our goal to be able to reduce this consumption in total by 40%. In our community most residential consumers avarage water bill is $55 - $85 per month. The H.O.A's irrigation for 2009 will be approx. $33K. If this abusive rate increase is allowed our homeowners will be taxed twice by this increase because the H.O.A. and consumers are the same.
Ultimately, each homeowners financial burden as a result of this increase will grow to $80 - $123 for there residence and $16 for the consumption used for irrigation in our community thus we will be forced to raise assessment from $61 - $76 per month. Our community water expenditires will increase by as much as $41 - $54 per household. In this current economic climate I feel this will push many into a financial position which may result in Global losing money as a result of homeowners not being able to pay their water bill.
Therefore I respectfully request that the ACC reconsider this increase and perhaps reduce the proposed increase to a 3 - 4 percent instead.
Respectfully:
Rick Fernandez
President of Santarra H.O.A.

I understand that price increases are a part of life but, during times as hard as these it is ridiculous to take advantage and hike up prices so much. How are those people like us who are trying to conserve water being rewarded? What will happen to the tens of thousands of people who can barely afford basic utilities now?

My bill is already at the point where I can not pay it, to raise it further would be outrageous. I have conserved my water usage and still my bill every month is higher then the last, I do not water my plants because I feel that would make my bill be higher so I have let my plants and trees die just to save money which I don't even see a difference, it is very discouraging.

Our water in West Park Buckeye is already expensive. Global Water is the worst I have tasted. It's so bad that it will ruin your appliances that utilize water. I feel that Global has already raised the price of my water because I have to filter it before I can use it. The water pressure is the lowest I have ever experienced and varies from time to time. If there was a way to fire Global Water they would be gone.

My family cannot afford these increases! This increase could be the last nail in the coffin of keeping in a budget. What are we to do, live without water? It is going to effect us in so many ways, not only our personal bills but the increases in HOA's and any number of businesses that use water!

One question: How are people supposed to pay more than they already are?
the rates now are outrageous, double than surrounding cities. The fees are RIDICULOUS. this is unfair...they're doing just because they feel they can. We have no choice, WE HAVE NO OTHER WATER COMPANY! get other companies to move out here and then we will definitely see a change in global waters unfair ways, I'm sure of it!

I can barely pay my bills now! and they want to double the water bill! i have a household of 3! and our bill is $75 a month! i have a small house i dont have a pool nor do i water grass and i still pay double what people pay in other cities with other GOOD companies that don't price gauge! I HATE YOU GLOBAL WATER! and i hope someone is able to put a stop to these unfair prices. if not I WILL FORECLOSE!!!! & move far far away so i never have to deal with these companies in maricopa again! electrical district #3 in no better!

Global Water's rates are already higher than companies in surrounding areas. I don't know how they can justify raising the rates and if they do then their water and sewer rates will be significantly higher than surrounding areas.

As we see more and more homes in forclosure and more residents losing their homes or struggling to pay bills to keep their homes it seems irresponsible to have Global Water try to raise their already HIGH rates (double what neighboring cities pay).

Our rates are allready about 50% higher then the other areas around us!! If Tempe, Casa Grande and Gila Bend average around $52 a month for service, Why does Global Water feel they need over $120 a month on average?
