Create & Enforce New Jersey Animal Cruelty Registry

New Jersey has statutes in place that are regulated to protect animals from abuse, cruelty and neglect, yet animals are not as protected as they deserve.  Animal cruelty cases throughout the state are on the rise and something must be done for the health and welfare of defenseless creatures.  http://www.state.nj.us/health/animalwelfare/law.shtml shows the efforts for animal welfare in New Jersey.

Some issues of animal cruelty throughout the state includes a case of a woman starving a young Pitbull dog and tossing it in an apartment building garbage chute; a woman was selling sick puppies, only to find she had 61 dogs on her property in horrific, flea infested conditions; another case of an animal hoarder who was found guilty of conspiracy to commit animal cruelty. The animals in his care appeared to be “waiting at death’s door,” and the list of such cases go on and on. I am urging state legislators to implement and strictly enforce an animal cruelty registry as a crucial tool in protecting animals and stopping all of this abuse, cruelty and neglect of animals.

An animal cruelty registry is a database that is similar to that of a sex offender or child abusers database. The premise is that any person that is found guilty of any type of animal abuse, cruelty and neglect needs to be placed on this database, which is required to be updated on a regular basis.  Additionally, these abusers need to be banned from future pet ownership or ever working with or caring for them for a lifetime.  The database should then be shared with all breeders, shelters, pet shops and others in the pet industry as a mandatory resource.

My efforts through this petition is to encourage New Jersey State Legislators to implement and enforce an animal cruelty registry in a crucial step to save and protect animals.  They cannot speak out in their own defense or to protect themselves and people need to step up on their behalf.  You can help with this endeavor by signing and sharing this petition, adding your own thoughts and comments.

New Jersey State Legislators – I strongly urge you to implement and strictly enforce an animal cruelty registry database as a crucial measure in protecting and saving animals from abuse, cruelty and neglect.  Such a database would be similar to that of a sex offender or child abusers database.
