Tell Brandy Melville: Small Sizes Don't "Fit Most."

Teen clothing store Brandy Melville opened its first U.S. shop five years ago, and the chain is now wildly popular amongst young women. The problem is, the store only offers clothes in one size, usually small, and promotes their items as "one size fits most."

The average 16-year-old girl weighs 138 pounds and has a 31-inch waist. This is a size large, or 12 to 14 (though sizes vary from store to store). In contrast, Brandy Melville's items are almost all small size 0s to 2s, with waistlines around 25 inches.

In a Buzzfeed report, women of varying sizes tried on Brandy Melville's "One Size Fits Most" items. Large and plus-sized women were unable to realistically wear most of the items they sampled. A size 4 to 6 woman struggled to fit into several of the items, and some could not be zipped up or didn't provide decent coverage.

If Brandy Melville only wants to offer small sizes, that's their privilege. But claiming their items are "one size fits most" is blatantly false. They are sending the message that girls who can't fit into their clothes are abnormal, and bigger than "most," which sends a damaging message. The reality is, "most" women, even those smaller than average, cannot squeeze into their tiny clothes. Please sign the petition to urge Brandy Melville to stop their false advertising or offer more sizes!

We, the undersigned, are concerned with your practice of labeling your clothing as "one size fits most" when the average teen girl is unable to realistically wear most of your garments.
