Citizens have the right to know if the people committing these violent crimes are registered firearm owners while giving the ability to guage if gun control policies are actually working. It is deceptive for the media to use gun crimes as an excuse for pushing anti 2nd amendment agendas and it horibbly misrepresents the people who legaly obtian and own firearms. Also the information should include rather the weapon in question was obtianed lawfully or illegally.
The information that must be disclosed to the public when reporting a firearm related crime would be 1. If the suspect was or was not a registered firearm owner. 2. If the weapon in quesiton was registered under FOID. 3. If the firearm was obtained legally or illegally.
