London Overground - Scrap the penalty charge: do not bypass due legal process

As this is NOT an accusation of deliberate fare evasion, the charge of £40-80 is no less an inconvenience to passengers who may not have a valid ticket for their journey for a plausible reason, than being prosecuted. The convenience is purely to that of London overground. There is no administration cost incurred in settling the balance of a fare, and the justification given is that London Overground lose revenue from fare evasion, both deliberate or unintentional, I presume: it is scandalous to make those who present with an understandable reason for not having a ticket, accountable for those who have evaded fare.

The Appeals procedure has proven to be a waste of time. In my case the notice was upheld at all levels but only dropped when I informed the company that I was taking the matter to my MP ;many people may not feel confident- even if they had the time- to challenge the issue of a notice.

The penalty Fare needs to be scrapped and passengers who have been subject to this unjust and unscrupulous policy should be reimbursed.
