The Bugun Liocichla is a 22cm olive grey bird with a black upper tail, black cap and it has striking gold streak each side of black eyes. This bird was first discovered in 1996 in Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary and it has been listed as Critically Endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) for its few numbers that are estimated less than 380 individuals and for the continuing loss of its habitat due to logging for fuel-wood and timber and the construction of a new road that leads to habitat degradation, the uncontrolled fires and the increasing tourism could pose a long term threat if it remains.
