The school's name is "Strong Rock." So why did administrators implode like a balloon when twelve-year old Maddy Blythe turned out to be so good at a boy's sport?
Maddy was already playing on the junior football team at her school where she got a standing ovation for a particularly impressive tackle during one game. Now Strong Rock Christian School administrators have decided that she can't play. She might give the boys on the team "impure" thoughts, school officials say, adding that Maddy might overhear some rough locker room talk.
Strong Rock is killing a girl's dream of being the first important woman football player. Tell Strong Rock Christian to let Maddy play.
We the undersigned are saddened that you have made Maddy Blythe the target of some very ugly discrimination.
Maddy obviously has the talent to play football with boys her age. She excels at tackling. She has a dream to be the first female football player to make it big time. You have no business wrecking that dream.
You cite the Bible and some very dated notions about segregation in making this decision. We are fairly certain that twelve-year-old boys are capable of impure thoughts all on their own--whether or not a young woman is present. Please reverse your decision and let Maddy play.
