  • by: caring citizens

Chief of the Kayapo, Raoni Crying when he found out that the President of Brasil, Rousseff approved the construction of the dam of Belo Monte, despite the thousands of e-mails and letters asking the government to reconsider. It is a death sentence for the communities living around the Xingu river. 'Unearthing more land than was removed to build the Panama Canal, this dam project will flood 668km2 of which 400km2 is standing forest. The flooding will also force more than 20,000 people from their homes, (http://amazonwatch.org/work/belo-monte-dam) and cause destruction to invaluable habitats for many species, all to produce electricity with a high social, economic and ambiental cost.  Share your voice and send prayers, maybe we all can do something about it. Peace
