we've got signatures, help us get to 5,000 by April 30, 2014
Thank you all that supported this Petition. All 96,000+ will be presented to Ontario's Premier and Minister of Natural Resources.....lets hope!
Thank you all for your support, it is more than I had ever imagined. This petition on March 30 will be closed as your support needs to be sent to K. Wynne, Premier of Ontario, ASAP.
This shows why I started this:
Mother Bear with her cubs will start emerging from their den in Ontario in 2 to 4 weeks. And if the spring hunt not stopped, this female Bear could be killed, thinking she was a him and these cubs will be dead after a week without her.
The Ontario gov has decided that it will reinstate the spring Bear hunt, no regard to what the majority in Ontario, Canada and the World say. I have sent your support to stop it to Kathleen Wynne, Premier of Ontario .
To you all, thank you for your support. This is not the end, it only makes it more important and therefore worth fighting harder for.
Ms. Wynne, Premier of Ontario, is a mother, she must know how important it is to protect your young. Morality is on our side.
Update: After a 15 year ban, Ontario is going to reinstate the spring bear hunt - including bear baiting and hunting with dogs - an inhumane practice that orphans bear cubs, causing them to starve to death.
Re-instating the Ontario spring bear hunt is irresponsible decision making. There is no evidence that says killing bears will improve human safety or reduce nuisance bear activity.
We know that a spring bear hunt means hundreds of orphaned bears will starve to death every year. Senselessly killing wildlife, and leaving their young to die a long, horrible death, doesn’t match Ontario’s values.
If the Ontario Government really cared about public safety, it would bring back and improve compliance with the Bear Wise Program, which was gutted in 2012. Education, awareness, and reduction of food attractants are the only ways to improve public safety and reduce numbers of nuisance bears.
We don’t want more senseless death. And we don’t accept policy-making that ignores scientific evidence.
A spring bear hunt is not the answer.
