A Composting Facility For CoMo

Hi, this is Izzy and Ainsley. We are 13 and we care about changing the world. Here is our proposal. About 21% of all of the garbage thrown out is food waste, 15% is paper products, 8% is wood waste, and another 8% is yard trimmings. Those things are all compostable and they are making up almost 50% of our landfills. When food waste breaks down in a air tight, oxygen free landfill it produces methane. Methane gas absorbs heat from the sun warming our planet at 70x the rate of carbon dioxide. When food scraps are composted (decompose in a oxygen filled environment) they produce carbon dioxide. When compost is added to soil it can filter out 60-95% of storm water pollutants. Not only that but by composting you are adding back to the soil, therefore creating more nutrient dense food that you eat. These are just a few of the reasons why we think CoMo should have a composting facility that will pick up our compost weekly and turn it into soil, that we can buy at the store or is used for local farming.
