Petition to Eliminate Rent Increase for Senior Citizens

The people who live in these apartments are all seniors with disabilities who are living on a fixed income. Some of the residents here are on walkers, have Chronic Bronchitis, Emphysema and other disabilities that would make it very difficult for them to move. These people were given a notice on March 27th and their rent is due on the April 1st. This raises a problem for the tenants because they will be charged an additional $810.00 to move out if they cannot submit a 30 notice between April 1st and May 1st. If they are not able to pay the increase they have no other choice but to move out.

The rent increase goes into effect on May 1st, 2015. Some of the tenants received an increase of 7.00 and others received and increase of 50.00. I do believe that this increase of 50.00 goes above and beyond the allocated rate of 2 percent per year. Many of the tenants feel it is not fair to charge one person so much more based on the date that they moved in and I to feel this is a great in justice.

Also when I signed my lease for an additional year, I was told that my rent would not increase and that it would remain the same until May of 2016. I reinstated my lease for an additional year because I thought it would be affordable for me to live there.
