Revive SB 613

  • by: Jesse Lankford
  • recipient: Senator Chris Edwards, chair of the Senate Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, Oregon

In 2015 Senate Bill 613 was introduced, and would have tightened regulations on aerial pesticide spraying. The bill also would have created buffers to schools, residential areas and water sources. Currently the only warning people living in Oregon get is the helicopter arriving to spray a nearby field, which is not tolerated in neighboring states. The bill has not yet made it out of the Senate Energy and Environment and Natural Resources committee and may miss the chance to be revived before the voting session ends. Unless, lawmakers are held accountable to make an effort in protecting neighboring people and habitats of different species. Oregon is known for its' wildlife; pesticide use in general poses a threat to all species but aerial spraying without regulations poses a greater threat to health and recreation in the state of Oregon. To get Oregon's lawmakers involved in passing SB 613, we call on Senator Chris Edwards.

Dear Senator Edwards,

I am ashamed of the logging practices in Oregon because they directly threaten human health, degrade habitats, and pollute water sources.

Oregon needs to be the nation's example of resposible logging practices.

Oregon needs logging standards that do not allow aerial spray, because this is not public interest it is only of interest to the timber industry.

Revive Senate Bill 613, and make it a law to protect public health and habitats that house native species to Oregon.
