San Bernardino City Animal Shelter

We here at the Animal Alliance Rescue Foundation of San Bernardino have met with the city manager Mr. Allen Parker and the previous chief of staff Mr. Morris. In Jan. Of this year while in a meeting with our VP April Ross it was asked of us to take over the city shelter by end of the fiscal year 2013 (June). It was also stated for us to go under contract employment to get things started.

In early March after numerous emails to confirm the decision to let us assume operational control we were informed that the city was going to try to get a JPA with the county Devore. As this was a hard hit for us because we've worked so hard for the last year to get the city to see the benefits on letting a group of people who love animals run the shelter instead of having all the issues they do now. We are still fighting and still trying to get them to see we have so much support and backing from all over to get this change.

Please I urge you to sign this petition to let the city see just how many people are for reform, change, and a better plan for the animals and the cities community. Thank you so much for helping bring a brighter light and with hope we can have a shelter in the true sense of the word.

San Bernardino Animal Shelter

Mr. Parker and Mr. Davis

As you know, there have been many concerns and allegations expressed towards San Bernardino Animal Shelter.

I implore you to investigate those concerns and allegations; to look at the condition of the shelter, to look at their files, to see if they are accurate or fraudulent, to look at the euthanasia rate, to look at any files on animals that came in injured and sat in agony, to look at animals that were held long after their availability date because the shelter would not release them. I ask you to look at the number of animals that were euthanized even though the shelter had been contacted by a rescue and asked to hold the animal, animals that were healthy, animals that were going to be released.

There are more than 2 sides to every story.

But when there is evidence of unsafe and unsanitary conditions, of animals lying in their own excrement’s, of animals in pain because of an injury or illness, in the form of videos and photographs, those accusations become reality.

And with that written, I will ask you to please consider the proposal that has been brought forward by The Animal Alliance Foundation of San Bernardino and Dora Mayes.

Ms. Mayes, not only volunteers and does what she can for the animals of San Bernardino, but she has committed herself to animals in surrounding counties, and in some instances, different states. She has driven rescue animals hundreds of miles to get him or her to their new home.

I am asking you to please let Ms. Mayes and her organization assume responsibility for the San Bernardino Animal Shelter; to look at her proposals and listen to her ideas to make the shelter a better one, not only for the animals, but for the community.

An animal shelter should be a happy, welcoming environment; a place where people want to find their next family pet, not just a place they go when they want to abandon their family pet.

Thank you for taking the time to read this; I can only imagine how busy you must be.

Update #29 years ago
As most of you know the city put out an RFP (request for proposals) and then denied both submitted. They stated that our group did not lower the bid, while I had to correct them, as we did lower it to 1.4 million dollars. I am not sure what the next steps will be but we are not giving up. We are in this for the long haul!! There is a saying our group lives by....

"One committed person is worth more than 40 people merely interested"

to me

I have an item on Monday’s Council’s agenda for permission to solicit proposals from organizations – for profits and non-profits alike – to take over operation of the shelter and animal control. Send me your address, and I’ll forward you the RFP (Request for Proposal).
