Stop the slaughter of migrating birds in Lebanon

As you read this message an incredible massacre is going on in Lebanon.

Lebanese poachers document their deeds on thousands of trophy pictures to show off to others. You can, if you dare to look at them, see in detail that species gravely endangered in Europe are being killed there on a massive scale.
http://www.komitee.de/en/actions-and-projects/species-protection/hunting-lebanon/lebanon-report-poaching;

The scale of the killing is such that more than 140 species, amongst which are rare songbirds, birds of prey and water birds, are affected by it. Several of the bird species killed on a large scale in Lebanon are on the European Red List of protected species. In their breeding areas in Europe substantial efforts are being made for their conservation. If nothing is done about the mass killing each spring and autumn in Lebanon, when the birds migrate to and from Europe, these European conservation efforts are turning meaningless. There are initiatives by the Lebanon Environmental Movement (LEM) and the Committee against Bird Slaughter (CABS) to put pressure, via the European Commission and the environmental ministers of all EU member states, on the Lebanese Government to do more for bird protection. Let’s tell the European Commission and environmental ministers of all EU member states to listen to those two organisations and to the alarmed scientists and conservationists in Europe. Hopefully this will encourage them to use their influence and financial means to force the responsible politicians in Beirut to take adequate actions to protect the birds. Let’s remind them that the EU bird protection guidelines oblige the EU member states to improve the conservation status of endangered bird species. In this situation extraordinary
measures for the protection of the complete annual habitat of these birds are needed. Let’s demand that the European Commission and the environmental ministers of all EU member states use all their diplomatic powers to induce the Beirut government to take action to improve the situation for our migrant birds in the Lebanon.
Let’s do it, not only for the sake of the birds but also for us and future generations being able to enjoy these beautiful creatures.
