Please sign and share this petition in an effort to get the police officer in Filer, Idaho to be punished for shooting and killing a dog; additionally we need to encourage police departments to get fully trained, according to animal control specifications, how to handle an animal they encounter rather than just shoot someone’s pet dead!

An officer by the name of Tarek Hassani gained a lot of attention recently when he shot a man’s pet dog on a routine call. Granted, the animal did get loose from its property, to no fault of the owner, and Officer Hassani shot “Hooch” the black Labrador without a second thought. The incident in a west Filer neighborhood clearly was filmed on the officer’s vehicle, first posted on Magicvalley.com and it sparked a national outcry.

Police Departments like the one where Officer Hassani currently works need to train all their officers on how to handle animals in a humane manner so that they don’t have to meet an untimely death. If this officer was properly trained, Hooch would still be with us and especially back home where he was loved and cherished.

Mayor Dunn recognizes that animal-control training is lacking in most police forces, as well as how to handle the public in a proper manner and he wants to change that! It may be a little late for Hooch but can save the lives of other animals. Nampa and Filer, Idaho Police Department – Mayor Rick Dunn – This police officer Hassani needs to be punished for just shooting this dog to kill. This was a pet that just got loose and if the officer was properly trained, and actually followed proper humane protocol (I understand he works a little under-handed) he could have safely and humanely captured the animal to return it to its owner. Not only punish him for his inappropriate behavior but ensure the entire police department gets educated on how to properly, safely and humanely handle animals they encounter as part of heir jobs!
