Paving the way for mental health services to support parents of adopted/fostered children

This petition is to advocate for changes in the mental health system to aid foster and adopted parents in acquiring effective mental health services for mental health conditions that disrupt normal family function.

Many of these children do not end up staying in their forever homes due to violence towards family members. The process of trying to stick with a child that suffers from these conditions is grueling and in many cases leads to families being torn apart, financial hardships and other destructive processes. Many times the only option left is to surrender the child to the state and be criminally charged with neglect and/or abandonment. Often children experiencing these types of mental health issues end up in the prison system due to their extreme violent tendencies that lead to sociopathic tendencies as adults from mental health services that have not truly addressed the underline issues.

Mental health services could be improved for these specific children by introducing a preventative type of program that eliminates the current issues that many families of adopted/foster children face once a situation becomes drastic. The mental health system needs to be changed to focus on prevention instead of damage control. Please join me in trying to get this system to work with families so union can occur!
