JUSTICE FOR IRISH SURVIVORS OF CHILD ABUSE

Thousands of Irish Survivors of Child Abuse who were severely Abused ( Sexually, Physically and Mentally) at the hands of The Religious in Catholic Institutions, are still fighting for Justice. Many Survivors, mostly living abroard in America, Australia and the U.K , fled their Homeland of Ireland, to escape the Country that had failed them so badly. Others merely had no choice! So many families were torn apart resulting in Sibblings being separated and never finding eachother again. Most were lucky to have found eachother after many Decades had passed! some were to late..never having the opportunity to meet their loved ones.

The Irish Prime Minister, Mr Brian Cowen, refuses to Dispurse Donations made by the Religious Orders intended for Victims, as a way of further Reparation and healing. Unfortunately for Victims, he is insisting on what is best for them by placing monies into a Trust Fund towards Education and Counselling!  Most Survivors have had Counselling throughout their Lives which can be Accessed free of charge through their Local G.P Services, as can Education. To suggest  Education Courses for Survivors, mostly in their Senior Years, is absolutely insulting! most Survivors are Mentaly/Physicaly Infirm. The majority of Survivors, Suffer with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Severe Anxiety, Chronic Depression and Agraphobia..amongst Crippling Arthiritus and Spondolosis as a result of many years of extreme Abuse.

THE FOLLOWING IS A QUOTE MADE BY THE BBC IN REGARDS TO THE ABUSE OF THOUSANDS OF IRISH SURVIVORS OF CHILD ABUSE IN CATHOLIC INSTITUTIONS.

""The BBC reported that The commission said overwhelming, consistent testimony from still-traumatized men and women, now in their 50s to 80s, had demonstrated beyond a doubt that the entire system treated children more like prison inmates and slaves than people with legal rights and human potential. According to the BBC, the Irish report said that The reformatory and industrial schools depended on rigid control by means of severe corporal punishment and the fear of such punishment It was systemic and not the result of individual breaches by persons who operated outside lawful and acceptable boundaries" .

Survivors feel the ideal solution would be to have their fair share ,as intended by the Religious, which would enable each and every one of them to look after themselves, and their families. This would allow them to get on with their lives, allowing them some sort of closure. They now feel they are being further Abused, by the very same State that neglected them. They feel they are being controlled, Manipulated and Dictated to. The Monies given in good Faith, is in the hands of the Irish Prime Minister, who refuses to Liase/Communicate with Survivors Individually or otherwise, often using underhanded Tactics such as dealing with hand picked Support Groups, who clearly do not support nor Benefit Survivors in anyway! These Groups are used as a Smoke Screen to divert the attention of the General Public and Media (e.c.t.). who are duped into wrongly thinking Survivors of Child Abuse are being Supported!  We have continously asked that these Groups be Transparent and prove the names of all survivors who they give support to, as They have been paid Millions of Euros, most of which, is not Accounted for., It would also show  Recipients who may have benefit from any such support Financially or otherwise.,proving to the General Public the shamefull Truth, and how appallingly Victims have been treated, exposing the State for what it really is; Which is nothing more than Abusive!

Irish Survivors Of Child Abuse are some of the most Vulnerable Members of Society. They were Abused by the Religious and the State. They were also Abused again by being Duped into secret Deals and sworn to Secrecy preventing them from speaking with the Potential threat of a hefty Fine or  a Prison Sentence!  also denying them of High Court Payouts in Compensation. They have been through unimaginable Torment and now they need real and fair Support. This isn't an Option, it is an absolute right!  they feel extremely insulted, as many Survivors are Homeless, barely coping Financially , often Survivng on Benefits and wriggled in Debt..There is no Practical/Financial help for Survivors. There is no choice,no say!..The Religious donated the12million for the EFB in 2006,( for Education Purposes!) and now the further contributions of Land, Property, and Cash for the benefit of Victims,However,  If the proposed plan by the Government to set up the Statutory Trust Fund, goes ahead, then are we to assume we will have two Education Finance schemes in operation at the same time? This would prove Futile, as did the Initial Education Fund Proved. The only Benneficiaries being the State, Religious and the Solicitors Representing Victims Of Child Abuse!
This is another reason why the Trust Fund is not needed, and not required by the majority of Survivors for further Redress of the Victim/Survivor, and should be shared out between them in the only fair way that they have indicated , directly to them, and not by the proposed Trust Fund.

We the undersigned call upon you, Mr Brian Cowen, For Fair And Transparent Treatment of All Irish Survivors Of Child Abuse.

We also Ask of you the following---

1)
A Irish Liason Officer who was raised in the Homes to be Employed specifically to help and Aid any Irish Survivor in whatever manner they need.---
.
2)
All Monies Donated by the Religious Congregations, and Intended for Survivors to be dispursed Immediately and without further delay---

3)
Eeach Survivor, and their Children, who do not use their (Educational Allowance Grant) shall receive the equivalent payable directly to Survivors, enabling them to use this how they see fit---

4)
The Same Medical Care Afforded to the Survivors as is to the Religous Orders---(as you are aware, Survivors suffer from the most Severe and Chronic Mental Health/Physical Health Conditions as a result of  Severe Child Abuse---

5)
Possibly a Pension paid Monthly/Weekly to all Survivors which has no Bearing on other Benefits they may receive---

6).
All Funeral Costs of Survivors to be covered by The Irish Government/Religious Order of which Home/Institution they were raised/Abused in---

I would also ask that you kindly consider the Comments made in the following quote  by The BBC. I would ask that you note in particular the Age Range of the Survivors mentioned and , once again inform Survivors of your intended plans for using the Money Donated to them, in good Faith by The Religous Orders for the suffering they endured leading up to, and during, the Process of "The ill prepared Redress Board"  This was deemed another form of Abuse by many Survivors! it was extremely Emotionally/Psychologically damaging for Survivors and their Families.

To suggest a Trust Fund at this stage,so that Child Abuse Survivors who are elderly, mostly of Pension Age, or approaching, who also suffer Exstensive Health issues ,would need this without Consulting Victims who mostly are not Represented!! is extremely insulting, cruel and out of touch. These should have been offered many years ago, when Some Survivors would have had a chance in Life to Achieve. I feel now is a little too late for that and would prove Futile. The help Survivors need (and in most cases are desperate for!) is Security, Financial Assistance, Health Care, Security of a Home to live in, and to have the chance of taking care of their Families.,. This should not have happened, and you, as the Present Prime Minister of Ireland, have a Morral Duty to Honor Survivors of Child Abuse, the People of your Homeland, ( and who are mostly proud to say they are Irish) by assisting them in anyway they need, in particular, Implementing the Requests above.

"The BBC reported that the commission said overwhelming, consistent testimony from still-traumatized men and women, now in their 50s to 80s, had demonstrated beyond a doubt that the entire system treated children more like prison inmates and slaves than people with legal rights and human potential. According to the BBC, the Irish report said that the eformatory and industrial schools depended on rigid control by means of severe corporal punishment and the fear of such punishment It was systemic and not the result of individual breaches by persons who operated outside lawful and acceptable boundaries."
