We call on you to ban inhumane practices on fur farms

Many millions of animals are skinned, often alive, for their fur. This practice is utterly inhumane and morally unjustifiable. This fur is then traded with no means of tracing how and where it was produced, meaning that anyone buying fur could be supporting this practice.
I understand that in some cultures wearing fur is part of a way of life, and the production of fur garments involves the considered decision to kill an animal to provide food, shelter and warmth. I believe in this circumstance, and where death of the animal is humane, that there is an argument for wearing fur.
However, fur for fashion is foul and I would like to see a future where any fur is traceable and produced according to humane standards, with suppliers being accountable for proving that production standards meet strict animal welfare criteria.
Not only is fur production inhumane, it also creates vast amounts of waste, pollutes the land and atmosphere around fur farms, and those working in fur farms work in poor conditions with low pay, therefore regulation of these farms would result in improved conditions for workers and a dramatic reduction in animal suffering.
Please support this action in requesting a ban on all inhumane practices involved in fur production and ask that President Xi Jinping uses their power and influence for a positive future.

President Xi Jinping,

With the greatest respect I am writing to you as a representative of the interested parties who have signed the attached petition.

As you will see we are asking you to use your power and influence to bring legislation into force that bans the use of inhumane practices in fur production,  for example the skinning of living, feeling animals who are still alive and suffer terribly during this process.  One can only imagine the pain - think of a time when you have injured yourself and the pain this caused; imagine peeling back even a small section of your own skin and you will soon realise that to knowingly inflict this level of atrocity on a sentient being is unjustifiable.

Please listen to the voices of those who are concerned not only for animal welfare, but also for the welfare of workers in this industry and the environmental damage caused in areas around fur farms.

We passionately call on you to ban inhumane practices and take a step towards a China that is respected for human and animal welfare, a China that can gain economic growth as a result of these improved conditions.

With great respect,

Teresa Matthews
