BREAKING WOLF UPDATE: We're heading to court!‏

HERE IS THE FULL UPDATE I RECEIVED ON 12/10:

Dear Kelly,

Wolves will have their day in court!

On December 17, Earthjustice’s legal experts will take our defense of Wyoming’s gray wolves to federal district court in Washington, D.C. If we win this legal battle, we will stop the wolf killing in Wyomingbut we need your help.

Help us see this fight through to victory. Chip in $5 or more to support our upcoming legal battle for wolves.

More than 115 wolves have been killed in Wyoming since the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service prematurely declared victory in the wolf-recovery campaign and turned their management over to the state, which permits shoot-on-sight killing of wolves across more than 80% of Wyoming.

But with the support of people like YOU, Earthjustice fought back! And on December 17, we will ask a federal judge to restore important legal protections for wolves in Wyoming.

Will you pitch in $5 or more to support this critical fight? We can’t do our work—and win—without you.

It’s a classic case of politics over science. Wolves once lived throughout the United States. But centuries of trapping, hunting, and poisoning decimated the population. The federal government has spent 18 years and millions of dollars to restore wolves to the West...and although they’ve made great gains, wolves in Wyoming remain imperiled.

Wyoming’s wolf management program promotes eradication of the species across more than 80% of the state and leaves wolves insufficiently protected in the remainder. And Wyoming wolves are relatively isolated from other wolf populations in the Northern Rockies, as wolves from other areas must run a gauntlet of hunting and trapping in Montana and Idaho before they can make their way to Wyoming. This inhibits genetic diversity essential to the wolf’s survival.

Yet last year the Fish and Wildlife Service cut a deal under intense political pressure from Wyoming state officials, and put wolf management in the hands of that notoriously anti-wolf state. Now Wyoming is killing wolves needed to secure the recovery of this iconic species, and allowing shoot-on-sight killing of wolves—and even their pups—across most of the state.

Today, the courts are our last and best line of defense for these wolves...and only Earthjustice has the track record and expertise necessary to protect them. In times like these, other organizations turn to Earthjustice to fight these battles in court, and we offer our services to them free of charge. So we in turn must turn to you!

Support this critical work today.
