McDonalds: Say NO to Genetically Modified Fries!

McDonalds' largest supplier, the J.R. Simplot Company, has developed a new genetically modified (GM) potato variety, the Innate potato. Simplot claims that the new potato will have fewer black spots from bruising, and will have lower levels of acrylamide, a potential carcinogen.

These new traits are achieved through suppressing the potato plant's natural expression of enzymes, which could affect the health of the plant and humans who eat it. The long-term effects of consuming GM foods are unknown, which is why many consumers distrust them. Unfortunately, labeling GM foods is not required in the U.S.

McDonalds may be inclined to accept these new GM potatoes due to industry pressure and the health benefits they claim to deliver. The company already sources other products made from GM crops, so this wouldn't be a first for the company. Please sign the petition to urge McDonalds to say "NO" to GM french fries!

We, the undersigned, are concerned with the possibility that McDonalds may start selling genetically modified (GM) french fries. We understand that McDonalds' largest supplier, the J.R. Simplot Company, has developed a new GM potato variety, the Innate potato. Simplot claims that the new potato will have fewer black spots from bruising, and will have lower levels of acrylamide, a potential carcinogen.

We respectfully urge you to consider the possibility that GM foods may have serious consequences in long-term consumers. Please decline to purchase the Innate potato in the future. Thank you for taking the time to read and consider our petition.
