STOP GCISD Feeder Pattern Change

PETITION:
We, the GCISD taxpayers and families, oppose changes to the GCISD feeder system and ask our superintendent and trustees to keep our working and successful system in place.

OVERVIEW:

What we face as parents of GCISD schools is forced re-zoning changes at the middle school and high school levels. Although the district has not released an updated zoning map, a Task Force of 46 committee members (10 of which are GCISD employees) are researching various zoning changes to make a direct feeder from the middle schools to the high schools.  The Task Forces started with 100's of variations and now have it narrowed down to 19 variations, which are shared on the GCISD website:   http://www.gcisd-k12.org/Page/37837.  From these you can see all the various combinations of feeds, which include several shifts of neighborhoods to schools that they aren't geographically close to.

"The district has set guidelines for maintaining current demographics.."  To achieve the current demographics, it is clear that lines will not be drawn geographically therefore clearly create harships for families forced to travel farther each day.

The change in the feeder system is for direct feeds from middle schools to high schools. The new feeder system is not based on growth or geographic boundaries (many students would be bused to a high school that is more than double in distance from their current high school feed). Many people have purchased homes in selected neighborhoods to be in a specific school zone.  We need to work fast to get our voices heard! I encourage you to send your opinions, ideas, or what you like about the current feeder pattern (if you do like it) to the district. Diplomatic, non threatening, and well balanced emails are encouraged to the district feeder email (see below).

With regard to grandfathering, the district has anly stated:  "It will certainly include a transition plan for students and families."  "It will not inlcude switching schools for students currnetly in high school and flexibility will be a part of the plan for students currently in lower grades."

Thank you for your support and please share these social media groups with your GCISD friends and neighbors.  Our goal is the Maintain our Success and Maintain the Current Feeder Pattern!
