Save Historic Altadena!

ALDI Inc. owns and operates a chain of discount grocery stores in the United States. A new store is currently being built by Charles Company, a developer, at 2246 Lake Ave., Altadena, CA. The neighborhood has been unable to get information about the plans for our community until now. Charles Company has not officially released any information to the community, even though the foundation is being poured.

This developer has countless lawsuits against it, despite that it calls itself a "family values based" company.  The plans for this store are an affront to the spirit of community. The expressed desire by the Altadena Town Council for businesses to encourage walkability is completely ignored.

• This current store design turns it's backside to our community.
• The plan presents an ugly concrete wall and no entrances to our main street
• Pedestrians will be required to walk to the rear parking lot to enter.
• The design encourages automobiles only, which not only will increase traffic and noise pollution, but makes walking to and from school for our children more dangerous.
• The plans are pedestrian-unfriendly, unattractive to the street, and slaps fire escape stairs directly on a prominent community corner, directly in the face of the middle school across the street. 

Our community wants and deserves a better. We want ALDI US to force its developer, Charles Company, to modify it's building plans to encourage pedestrians, to beautify the outward appearance of the building and to allow it's customers - primarily it's neighbors - to enter from Lake Ave.

We seek a mutually beneficial design - one that encourages a strong community to business relationship with ALDI.
