Animal Cruelty and Killings Continue in India

Cruelty towards animals in India continues despite stringent laws in place. Poor implementation, zero sensitivity, zero tolerance, bad attitude, ignorance, apathy all create monsters out of human beings. What a lot of bad karma our collective conscience has. This is further to my earlier petition:http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/animals-in-india-need-urgent-help
Here is more information of killings of innocent animals, who are supposedly protected by the law of the land.

This time there is information of Clandestine street dog killers on the prowl in Ernakulam, Kerala. Incidently, Kerala is labeled as God’s own country. I wonder which God would want this kind of violent country?

In-spite of the existence of Section 428/429 of the IPC street dogs are being killed indiscriminately at regular intervals supposedly to get rid of the ‘stray dog menace’ in Ernakulam.

A resident of Pukkattuvady Regetha K was questioned last Friday about the presence of stray dogs in her area. Later on these same people told her that they had caught two dogs and killed them.

Bharat Chawla a resident of Fort Kochi actually witnessed some people catching street dogs, strangulating them to death, tossing their corpse into garbage carts, thus doing away with any evidence. Prasanth Rozario, who witnessed a gruesome scene of street dogs being killed in Fort Kochi, said that this still happens but on the sly.

In the Kaloor area of Ernakulam, stray dogs who have their daily meals at another animal lovers home have gone missing in small numbers at regular intervals.

The failure of proper implementation of Animal Birth Control (ABC) and establishing a proper garbage disposal system are the main causes for the inability to control the street dog population by the humane way of sterilizations and vaccinations, as is legal in India. A sly modus operandi has been adopted to bypass any court order etc. Mass extermination of dogs done openly would invite protests, and unnecessary headaches for the governing bodies thus the regular killings in the sly.

Please help the dogs and stop the unnecessary killings.

As per the law of the land, homeless dogs are to be sterilized, vaccinated, and then returned back to their original habitat that they were picked up from. Details on this are available in the Animal Birth Control (Dogs) Rules, 2001, enacted under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. These Rules had received the assent of both the Houses of Parliament (India), and have become the law applicable across the country.

The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act is designed to protect animals from mistreatment. But there is no implementation of the same, mainly because there is no assistance from the local police!

It is the dharma of our country's leaders to protect all in their care including animals, that we only seem to use and abuse. Our country's animals need sensitivity and decency. Why are such cruel acts of violence continue to be carried on in India? India's basic value system was tolerance, non-violence, reverence of all forms of life, belief in the Karma philosophy. But with this attitude and violence the country's collective conscience is in an all time low.

We sincerely request our leaders to put a stop to cruelty against animals. If these crimes are considered serious by our law makers, our country will be a better place for our children.
