Tell Wal-Mart to Close on Black Friday and Give Employees the Time Off they Deserve!

REI and other retailers are closing their doors this Black Friday to give their employees the time off they deserve this holiday.

I strongly urge Wal-Mart, as a leading participant in Black Friday, to do the same and give your employees paid time off on Black Friday and Thanksgiving.  Wal-Mart has a chance to set an example for retailers across the nation to take a stand for employee rights.  Employees deserve the option to spend time with their family for the holidays.

Not to mention, it might save Wal-Mart and their employees from the risk of labor law violations and eliminate the high volume of crimes that happen every year on Black Friday.

Wal-Mart related incidents alone have included numerous fights, pepper spray injuries, a child being trampled, stabbings, a shooting, and the death of an employee.

Is the reward really worth the risk?

Tell Wal-Mart to close on Black Friday and let’s all have a safe, healthy and happy holiday.

Dear Mr. McMillion,

As a leading corporation, Wal-Mart has the ability to set an example for retailers across the nation by closing its doors and taking a stand for their own employees.

As the President and CEO of Wal-Mart, I strongly urge you to give your hardworking employees the paid time off they deserve this Black Friday and Thanksgiving.  Your employees deserve the chance to spend this time with their family, like most Americans have.
