Organizers of the controversial Yulin Dog Meat Festival have not only ignored a petition of 200,000 people calling for an end to the annual feast of dog flesh, but the notoriously barbaric canine cooking festival has also decided to add cat meat to the menu. It needs to stop! gofund.me/helpdogsinchina

To: Governor Chen Wu,Chairman Lu Bing. Cats and dogs in China are often abandoned and left to subsist on the streets, with many dying due to illness or accidents. Government authorities organize brutal dog-killing campaigns to try to reduce stray dog populations. Stray dogs and cats are also snatched from the streets and taken to horrific meat markets, where they are sold for human consumption and often suffer a slow, violent death. Please help to enforce the law to protect cats and dogs. Please end the Yulin dog meat festival, which has seen the theft and slaughter of an estimated 50,000 dogs since it was started.

Please stop the illegal capture and torture of dogs, and please protect consumers from meat that comes from diseased and poisoned dogs. China is making great strides in animal welfare, but we believe this event is a stain on Yulin and on the nation. We urge you to cancel the upcoming festival on June 22 and to abandon the illegal dog meat trade.

Thank you.
