To change the law and achieve better access to justice for the victims of abuse by changing the time limits for assault compensation claims.
DESIRED OUTCOMEThe law is unfair, it stops rape, and indecent assault victims from making a claim against their abuser more than 6 years after the event (or the age of 24 if the assault happened to a child under 18). The law has been criticised by the European Court and the Law Commission, who have recommended a new Act of Parliament. We want the new Act to be brought in immediately. The government have already delayed for 4 years. The present law allows rapists to avoid claims for compensation after the time limit has passed.
