Toronto Police Department allows only officers on bicycles to wear shorts.

We have just experienced our hottest summer on record. Have you noticed our officers on duty throughout this Summer? Those on bikes have been out in their shorts but those who must stand in the heat at parades or other events are still wearing those ridiculously hot polyester trousers.
Why?
Because they are told that they must wear the 'uniform of the day'.
Again...why?
What possible difference would it make if some were wearing shorts?
Obviously NO DIFFERENCE AT ALL since some of them, the cyclists, already ARE wearing them and there has been no negative issues arising from this difference.
Other Police Departments throughout the world offer the option of shorts in hot weather.

Our Toronto Police Officers deserve our support here.
