Stop Landlord MPs voting on Housing Law

"The number of MPs supplementing their incomes by acting as landlords has risen by a quarter since the last parliament, with David Cameron and George Osborne among those earning extra money by renting out properties." Source:Guardian Newspaper.

Now more than 1/3rd of MPs are buy to let landlords, how can these MPs be impartial when discussing and voting on housing policy in the UK?

Most young people who cannot rely on the bank of Mum and Dad for a deposit have little or no chance of buying a home of their own unless they see housing costs fall. Instead building affordable housing, successive governments have driven up prices.

Rents should be capped, tenants should be able to have secure permanent homes. Things need to change.

As long as MPs have no incentive to change the status quo because THEY BENEFIT PERSONALLY from this situation, nothing will be done.

Additional original text from the petition:

If the Government gives help in the form of ISAs, the £3,000 given to first time buyers will equate to a £30,000 price rise in percentage terms! How does this help? The only people it helps are property speculators and those already in possession of their own homes.

If you think we dont have enough land - consider this - only around 4% of the land mass of the UK is built up - if we have more people, we need more houses. House builders should be forced to build on land they have received planning permission for and not use land as an asset to boost their share price.

House prices and the amount people have to pay back to lenders, are the main source of economic drag in the UK - houses don't do work, they just sit there gobbling up money which could be spent on setting up businesses and growing the economy.

To change this situation MPs need to take themselves away from discussions on housing policy in respect of planning and other measures which artifically prop up extortionate prices. Ask youselves - why should I be denied a secure home and a resonable cost? Answer: because investors might not like it if anything was done to change this! How fair is this?

It is no use looking to other parties for help as they too have many MPs who are landlords themselves.
