  • by: Len Hovan
  • recipient: Senator Orrin Hatch Rep. Paul Ryan Pres. B. Obama

Members of the House Ways and Means Committee.
In regards to HR. 1427: Medicare CGM Access Act of 2015

Senate Finance Committee                                                                        Medicare CGM Access Act of 2014.and S.804

As this bill sits and languishes in your committees senior citizens with diabetes are suffering.

CGM - Continous Glucose Montoring

This technology has proven to significantly improve the health of Senior Diabetics by giving them much better control and diminishing the occurrences of Hypoglycemic or Hyperclycemic incidents.
A large number of Seniors at this point in their lives have become unaware of the signs.

 Medicare’s fee-for-service costs in 2012 were $176 billion.
Of that 104 billion was attributed to seniors with diabetes.
According to the JDRF this one piece of technology could save 2/3rds of that cost.about $70,000,000,000.00.

Insurance companies have covered the CGM technology for 5 years.

These same bills in 2014, just as now, were allowed to die in committee, without action.
Please help me Force Rep. Paul Ryan and Senator Orrin Hatch to pull these bills out of committee, and Pres. Obama to sign it,

A trip to the hospital at a cost to Medicare of about $17,564 for an inpatient visit.

Also deminishing Diabetic, amputation, kidney disease, and loss of eye sight, The Continues Glucose Monitoring System (here after CGM) in conjunction with an insulin pump (already covered by Medicare) is the closest thing to a Mechanical Pancreas that we have to date.

The cost as of today 10/02/2015 for a starter kit from Dexcom would be $1198.00 and the Senders $349.00 per month.
Broken down $1198.00 unit + $349.00 sensors x 12 = $5386.00 total cost first yr
Currently I stick my finer 10 – 12 times a day at $ 1.00 each or about $ 360.00 per month for current test strips.
If just one person is kept from going to the hospital, the$ 17,564.00 would cover the costs for 3.2 patients for a complete year. After the first year those costs would diminish to $4188.00
Shall we start saving Medicare or maybe just lives? Maybe cutting costs while improving care would be a good place to start.
What was the cost to the 40 million senior diabetics in the last year that had to paid a leg an arm or maybe a life.
Just what was the cost for Congress"s inaction?
Please help me Force Rep. Paul Ryan and Senator Orrin Hatch to pull these bills out of committee, and Pres. Obama to sign it,
