Give New Jersey Businesses Owners The Right To Opt Out Of Yelp

As small business owners we would like to have the ability to opt out of Yelp and other online review sites.

We have the option not to be listed in the Yellow Pages so why can’t we have the same option online?
Yelp provides a room or venue for anyone to break the law and slander or make libelous statements about a business or business owner.
How is this any different than providing a room for prostitution or illegal gambling?

In the past I have filed lawsuits against customers who posted fictitious and libelous statements about my business.
Although my business currently maintains a 4.5 star Yelp rating I would still like the option to be removed. Business owners become hostages of such online review sites and cannot handle situations according to their gut or business practices for fear of a bad review.

A onetime customer of ours posted a 5 paragraph 1 star false review 100 days after the service was provided.
When I spoke with the client it was clear to me that one of my competitors put him up to it.
I contacted Yelp and let them know that I have a signed work order from this client stating that the job was done to his complete satisfaction and would like them to take the review down and they refused.
This review took my overall rating down ½ a star. Sources say is that a 1 star difference can equate to 8% of a business’s annual gross sales.
Based on that statistic this false review cost me $80,000.00 and Yelp refuses to take the review down.

In a struggling economy Yelp is hurting small business owners most of which do not have the capabilities to fight them.
We are asking our politicians to protect us against these monsters and give New Jersey business owners the option to be taken off these sites if we choose to do so.
