Rape Victims Deserve the Right to Prosecute their Attackers

There are hundreds of rape kits sitting on shelves all over the state of Georgia that have not been tested. There are hundreds of sexual assault victims who have been unable to seek justice against those who have committed these horrible crimes against them.

HB827 could make a huge difference in the lives of victims of sexual assaults, their families and those who support them, if only Senator Renee Unterman, who is the chair of the Health and Human Services Committee would stop denying requests to hold a hearing on the bill.

In an article which appeared in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Senator Unterman stated that she didn’t see a reason to write the HB827 into law. Clearly the majority of the members of the GA House disagree with the Senator, and would like to see her do what is in the best interest of the people who live in the state of Georgia. Victims of rape have a right to have their attackers prosecuted, and they deserve justice.

Update #17 years ago
A bill was introduced in the Georgia House of Representatives and passed with zero opposition.
