No Cell Tower on Pine Street in Chatham Twp.

Verizon Wireless has applied for variances in a residential neighborhood on Pine Street in Chatham Township, NJ, in order to construct and install a wireless communication facility. This will include additional height to the existing PSE&G electrical tower, as well as constructing a building facility at the base and a gravel access road. As an unnecessary commercial project that will potentially affect the market value of many homes in Chatham Township, this new building and additional facility will have a negative affect on our community. While the Telecommunications Act of 1996 does not allow for health concerns to be listed as a reason for denying the construction of a cell tower, it is clear that the long term effects of exposure to cell towers on adults and children remain unrealized at this time. There are still many unanswered questions about this project and it's potential impact to our environment, community, and residents. Moreover, the approval of this cell tower will also set a precedent for future telecommunication facilities being constructed in residential areas in Chatham Township. Please join us in opposing this unnecessary commercial project in our neighborhood and township.

Reminder: Wed. April 13th @ 7:30pm is the next Verizon Cell Tower hearing. Please attend this meeting to have your voice heard. There are many other options available for Verizon other than on Pine Street, and we need to stop the expansion by mobile carriers into residential neighborhood in Chatham Twp. Thanks, and see you on Wed. evening at the Municipal Bldg.

Reminder: Wed., Feb. 10th @ 7:30pm - BOA special hearing about the cell tower. PLEASE attend! This week the judge ruled in the appeal case against Chatham Twp regarding the cell tower on the Buxton water tower. Chatham Twp is becoming a safe haven for cell companies' equipment. Let's stop this now! Email Mayor Curt Ritter at critter@chathamtownship-nj.gov and the Board on the web at www.chathamtownship-nj.gov/mail_Planning_Board.html. It's important to voice your concerns at the meeting.

Thanks to all who attended the site visit on Sat., Jan. 9th. Apparently, another cell tower is going to be built btw. Pine and Shunpike on PSE&G property, so that makes this one unnecessary. It was recommended that as many people as possible be present at the meeting on Thurs., Jan. 21st at 7:30pm at the Twp Building (58 Meyersville Road). We need to "fill the room" and show Verizon and the Board that we do not want this in our community. Thanks everyone!
