Tennessee - Implement Law Against Dogs Riding in Back of Pickups

Currently there are no laws throughout Tennessee that bans the practice of dogs riding in the back of pickup trucks.  It may seem like a safe and common practice but people are not aware that dangers do exist to the poor animals.

When placing a dog in the back of a pickup, a person needs to consider what would happen if the dog falls out for some reason while being driven or the animal sees something that would draw it to jump out and go on a chase.  There could be many dangerous scenarios that many pet parents may not consider when placing that dog in the back of that truck.  It is way too serious to allow your pet to ride in the bed of a pickup truck.

We are asking that a law be implemented against such a practice of allowing any animal to ride freely in the back of a pickup truck.  If a dog is allowed to ride in the back of the truck, there needs to be specific restrictions, such as the dog is restrained with a specific safety harness where it cannot jump out of the vehicle for any reason, especially in motion. Help us in our efforts to protect dogs riding in pickup trucks by signing and sharing this petition.

Tennessee Legislators – We encourage you to implement laws against dogs being allowed to ride in the back of pickup trucks that puts them in danger of either being thrown out or to jump out for whatever reason.  This is such a dangerous practice to allow animals to ride openly in the back of a truck.  The only allowance of such practice is when the animal is confined with some type of installed harness and confinement so that the animal is safe and secure when riding in the vehicle.
